Using your Spiritual Gifts to Strengthen the Church
If you are a Christian, a disciple of Jesus Christ, you have been supernaturally gifted to play a special role in the Kingdom of God and in the local church.
What the Bible says:
1 Peter 4:10 “Each on should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.”
1 Cor. 12: 7 “Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.”
1 Cor. 12:11 “All these are the work of the one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he (the Holy Spirit) determines.”
Some gifts of the Spirit appear to be “miraculous” in nature where others appear to resemble natural talents. There are diverse views on the nature of spiritual gifts; however, most agree that when a Christian is yielded to God and controlled by the Spirit even what appear to be human talents are supernaturally energized for the work of the Kingdom.
As someone uniquely gifted for serving in the body of Christ it’s vital that you use your gifts for the common good (See 1Cor12…) Others in the Church need your gifts and you need theirs!
Here is a list of gifts recorded in the Bible: (Some classify gifts as either Charismatic gifts, Gifts of Office or Serving Gifts) All gifts are important for the building up of the Church.
--Teaching--Service--Prophecy--Exhortation
--Leadership--Giving--Knowledge--Wisdom
--Mercy--Healing--Faith--Miracles--Discerning Spirits
--Tongues--Interpretation of Tongues--Helps--Apostleship
--Administration—Evangelism—Celibacy—Voluntary Poverty
--Pastoring—Hospitality—
--sometimes included: Missionary—Martyrdom—Intercession--Exorcism
Action Points:
-Believe that you have been given spirituals gifts for the building of the body of Christ (the Church).
-Ask God to reveal to you your gifts and how you can use them in the Church
-Discuss with others what you believe your gifts are. Others often recognize things that we are unaware of.
-Talk to your Pastor about using your gifts in the fellowship of believers.
-Ask God to help you grow in the Fruit of the Spirit so that our spiritual gifts are used appropriately
--Step forward in faith!
Jesus said. “As the Father sent me, so I send you.” (John 20:21)
